AcornWiki is the Acorn IT Group's Web portal with information about and links to the divisions and business units of the Acorn IT Group. As the corporate umbrella under which all of our companies operate, Acorn provides back-office support, human resources administration (staff development, benefits, posting job announcements, etc.), consolidated purchasing (so our customers and clients receive the lowest possible prices), and centralized accounting and receivables management. This website also provides contact information and general information about the corporation.

The site is organized similarly to other MediaWiki wikis, like Wikipedia, WikiBooks, Commons, etc. The three biggest differences between the AcornWiki and other wiki sites are (1) our site is primarily only of interest to our staff, clients, and vendors instead of the world at large; (2) the general public cannot edit or even access all of our site, but our staff members can; and (3) our site supports our business functions, making it a "commercial" site (even though we do not charge to access it).

Blue links are functional links (i.e., they take you to some actual content). Light blue links are also functional, but lead you to information on another wiki. Purple links are functional links you have already visited. Red links are ones pointing to information we intend to add to the wiki sooner or later. Staff members are welcome to add content for red links they encounter. Likewise, staff are welcome to edit, improve, and make corrections to most content in the wiki. (Staff policies and other sensitive information may require special privileges to edit.

AcornWiki replaced the older, static Acorn IT Group Web site on March 17, 2007. We are in the process of forklifting over the information from the earlier incarnation of our site into the new wiki. We are also adding quite a bit of new content, too.

The content focuses on issues related to our company, such as our staff, corporate structure and management, vendors, and, of course, our clients. This wiki is sparse on general documentation, editing help, and how-tos. With so much excellent documentation already available at Wikipedia, Media Wiki, and MetaWiki, there is little need to duplicate efforts.

We would love to receive feedback from you about your experiences on our new wiki. Please contact us and share your thoughts so we may improve. Thank you!
